Alison Can Read. The point is to follow as many book blog as you can and make new friends! As part of the adventure, she gives a weekly question.
Here's the questions for this week (answer will contain adult language. If you're under 18, STOP reading):
Q: Have you had a character that disappointed you? One that you fell in love with and then “broke up” with later on in either the series or a stand-alone book? Tell us about him or her.
A:
I have to agree with Rachel on this one, Anita Blake is the biggest disappointment I have experienced with characters. I fell in love with her shortly after the first three books were out. I read her books as soon as I could get my hands on them, stayed up late into the night (or early morning) finishing every novel, etc. The love of crazy coffee mugs, penguins, and a Christian girl who was still an animator was awesome! And, on top of that, she was a kick-ass vampire hunter. When she was one of the only licensed vampire hunters, I cheered! Hamilton also had me falling in love with Richard. *sigh* Of course, we all know how that ended. Adding insult to injury, she is screwing up Edward!!! Needless to say, after throwing
Harlequin across the room and finally finishing it a two years later, I have finally given up on the dream and accepted reality: Anita is nothing but a vampire and were slut.
I had the same problem. I gave up on the series because it was starting to resemble porn: all sex, no plot.

@Abria: Honestly, I thought a cheesy B porno would have better dialogue! I mean, seriously! When she goes into detail about liking to give a vampire head before they drink blood, Richard's obsession with the size of his penis in comparison to Micah, etc. I wanted to puke! Sorry to say, Hamilton has lost all the respect I once had for her. She couldn't write herself out of a paper bag.
ReplyDeleteHopping through. No one seems to like Anita anymore. I'd still like to start the series though.

HAHA, I really don't know whether or not I should pick the books up. Maybe I'll just read some? Is there a book that is still good and does okay as a book to finish the series? Like.. it isn't really open-ended and has a good enough HEA? *sigh*

Anita is very popular today. LOL. I still like her, though.

@Patricia: I would say that Obsidian Butterfly was the last book I really enjoyed. So everything up to that book isn't too terrible . . . If memory services me ^_~
ReplyDeleteI completely agree...I HATED Harlequin with a passion...but Skin Trade did redeem her a tad...plus more Edward is always the way to go :)

@Viki: Honestly, I'm too scared to give her another go. In addition, I am terrified that she will completely screw over Edward. *sigh* Choices, choices, choices

ReplyDeleteI have not read those books but I did want to tell you that I love your rating system. :)

I have not read this series but I've seen a few others who said pretty much the same thing. Always good to know when choosing books.
